１９世紀から伝わるアメリカのトラディショナル・ソング。とはいえ、アメリカでも、クリスマス・ソングとしては比較的マイナーな部類に入るらしいとのこと。日本では、"陽気な聖ニコラスおじいさん"と邦題が紹介されることもあります。
とにかく、この曲は、キースが初めてメイン・ヴォーカルをとった作品として貴重です。ライヴなどでは、かつてピーターが歌っていた曲のヴォーカルを担当することがありますが、アルバムに収録されるのは今回が初めてです。
シンプルなロック調のリズムに合わせて歌いまくりますが、内容は純真な子供心を表したものとなっています。
以下は、キースのオフィシャル・ウェブサイトにおけるファンの推測を基に記載した、当曲の歌詞です。そして、その後、キース本人からもお墨付きをいただきました！続く日本語部分は、自分なりの解釈で訳した訳詞です。もちろん、歌詞は完璧ではないと思いますし、訳もいつものようにかなりの意訳ですので、ご注意ください。
なお、本アルバムのサブ・タイトル、≪WHAT'S IT GONNA BE, SANTA ?≫は、この曲の歌詞の一節から来ています。
ところで、この曲の元となった原詩には、以下のような一節があります。シカゴ版では、これをモジって個々のメンバーが欲しがるようなプレゼントが羅列されています。この“お遊び”をしたいがために、このややマイナーな曲を取り上げたのかな？と思ったりします。とくに、トリスの欲しがってるものがお人形さんというくだりには腹を抱えますが、もちろん、これも原詩にヒントを得たユーモアです。キースもここを押さえてもらいたいようですよ！

原作者は、プエルト・リコ出身のギタリスト、ホセ・フェリシアーノ。この曲は、１９７０年の『CHRISTAMS ALBUM』に収録されていました（試聴はこちら）。
タイトルの"FELIZ NAVIDAD"とは、スペイン語で≪メリー・クリスマス≫という意味です。
フェリシアーノ自身は、ラテン・アーティストではなく、国際アーティストを自負しているようですが、やはり、彼の歌う"FELIZ NAVIDAD"は、ラテンないしスカ風味がふんだんに盛り込まれています。
これに対して、シカゴ版"FELIZ NAVIDAD"は、ロバート・ラムが華麗で繊細なアレンジを施しています。その甘くて奥深いボーカルとあいまって、感動を抑えきれない方も多いことでしょう。
ちなみに、日本でもおなじみの韓国の歌姫BoAも、この"FELIZ NAVIDAD"を歌っています。曲は、オムニバスCD『winter vacation in SMTOWN.com - Angel Eyes』（２００１年）などに収録されています。
BoAのバージョンは、一瞬、違う曲のような印象を受けますが、イントロをもう一度ゆっくり聴いてみてください。≪Feliz Navidad≫というスペイン語のサビの部分がインストゥルメンタル化されていますよ！また、歌詞中には、≪I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas From the bottom of my heart≫という一節が健在です。これに韓国語の歌詞が追加され、全体として、とても軽やかなポップ・ソングに仕上がっています。それにしても、韓国語って、歌にすると、なんだかフランス語みたいに聴こえてきますね。意外な発見でした。
